Commission Takes First Step Toward Eminent Domain Proceedings
Lawrenceburg leaders took the first step Thursday toward obtaining a piece of property through eminent domain proceedings.
Lawrenceburg City Attorney Alan Betz recommended the passage of the resolution by the Lawrenceburg Board of Mayor and Commissioners during their bi-monthly business meeting Thursday evening.
Betz explained that the property in question is key in completion of the city’s multi-million dollar flood alleviation project. Continued negotiations have failed to yield a purchase agreement between city leaders and the owners. The property in question is situated west of Taco Bell, along U.S. Highway 43.
The resolution was approved unanimously. Mayor Allen Chapman was absent from the meeting.
Betz explained that the passage of the resolution was simply the first step in the process of obtaining the needed parcel.
